WAY-A

"WAY-A is an audiovisual work that examines deindustrialization and its environmental and landscape consequences, with a focus on the province of Asti. The title refers to the Way Assauto, the historic Asti factory now abandoned and the epicenter of an environmental crisis in which hexavalent chromium leaks contaminated the surrounding area, causing serious health impacts on the local population. The work takes the form of a hybrid between digital material and documented reality: on one hand, it is partly generated using artificial intelligence models (Stable Diffusion, ComfyUI); on the other, it is nourished by field-gathered materials-ambient recordings, interviews, and photogrammetries of abandoned industrial sites.These elements are then transformed and reworked: the interviews, for example, are not presented as audible speech but are absorbed into an evocative sound design; the point clouds produced by the photogrammetries become abstract visual matter, an architecture in metamorphosis."
